Each month, our partner school districts submit glowing reviews of our employees, from which we select one substitute and one permanent employee of the month. We’re pleased to honor our winners from last month!
Substitute of the Month: Malvin Meck, New Jersey
Malvin became a substitute for ESS in January 2015. Since then, he’s worked 472 assignments at the Stratford, Washington Township, and Gloucester Township School Districts. Malvin was nominated by TEN people from Samuel S. Yellin School in Stratford, including seven teachers (Janice Boyle, Beverly Van Oyen, Sara Jane Shissler, Stacey Butler, Jeff Filipkowski, Michael Lucchesi, Stacey Kay); two administrative assistants (JoAnne Kelly, Sue Overpeck); and one MD classroom assistant (Catherine Green).
The school’s 7th Grade Resource Teacher, Sara Jane Shissler wrote, “Mr. Meck is adored by everyone in the Samuel S. Yellin School Community. He’s a trusted and well-respected substitute who makes teachers feel confident that their class is in good hands when they are out of the classroom. Mr. Meck also has a great rapport with students. Even though he’s a substitute, Mr. Meck is fully involved in the school community and events. He was the MVP and fan favorite of our school’s student/faculty basketball game. He attends school concerts and drama performances. Mr. Meck is a school celebrity and I often joke that he’s my sidekick. Mr. Meck has joined me when I was nominated to participate on our Faculty Friday announcements, as well as a member of my “posse” in our school’s first annual Wing Bowl fundraiser. Mr. Meck is compassionate, patient, and has a wonderful sense of humor. He makes coming to work more enjoyable, and I truly do not know if there is a way we can thank him for all that he does.”
Permanent Employee of the Month: Jessica Thomason, Georgia
Jessica joined ESS as a food service worker for Brooks County Schools in February. She quickly established herself as a dedicated team player, and the district’s Director of Nutrition Services, Chynna Wilson, appointed her to be the district floater. In other words, Jessica goes wherever she is needed each day.
Jessica was nominated by ESS Area Manager, Lisa Nichols, who wrote, “Jessica’s attitude and professionalism make her a benchmark for ESS Support Services. Her assignment changes every day, but she has the flexibility to go with the flow. I appreciate her ability to adapt to different situations every day and to be a valued team member for the Nutrition Services Department in Brooks County. She truly deserves to be Employee of the Month.”
Congratulations Malvin & Jessica – keep up the excellent work!
