Why should I become an ESS substitute or permanent employee?

Working with ESS will give you the flexibility to partake in meaningful work that fits in with your lifestyle goals. ESS substitute and permanent employees are a valuable resource who can make lasting impressions on students' lives. By working as a substitute teacher, a paraprofessional, or a support staff employee, you're able to provide a needed service while expanding your network and gaining valuable on-the-job experience. Our employees are often first in line to obtain full-time jobs in our partner districts. At ESS, you're able to gain these experiences while enjoying many benefits and perks.

Are there currently any open positions with ESS?

Yes, we have immediate openings available for substitute and permanent employees.

Where can I work?

ESS substitute employees are eligible to work within any of our client districts. Once you have been activated in our automated system, you will have the ability to create a preferred schools list. From there, you will specify the schools you prefer to work in and those you do not. ESS permanent employees are hired to work at one specific school district for the entire school year.

Where are your districts?

We currently partner with more than 900 school districts nationwide. Visit our Apply page to search by school district, county, or zip code.

What credentials do I need?

Credentialing requirements (such as clearances and minimum education requirements) vary by state. Please note that working with children requires several federal and state clearances which must be obtained whether you work for ESS or directly for a school district. You can visit our Job Types & Requirements page for an overview of the typical credentials needed in your state. We also suggest speaking directly with your ESS recruiter to find out exactly what is needed.

Why do you require training?

Training is a pre-employment requirement for all new ESS employees. Our engaging training program helps our employees feel confident and prepared to thrive in the classroom. We always hear our teachers have learned something new, even if they have been in the classroom for years.

Do you provide employee benefits?

Yes, ESS offers traditional healthcare benefits and 401k options, along with many other job perks. You will enjoy ongoing training opportunities, dedicated employee support, monthly raffles, an employee discount shopping program, referral rewards, exciting bonus opportunities, and employee recognition initiatives. In most locations, we also offer weekly pay. Plus, daily substitutes have complete flexibility over their schedule. Visit our Employee Advantages page to learn more.
