Mike Fee, Vice President of Business Development, is a lifelong education advocate who has devoted his career to making teaching a viable, respected profession.
Starting as a high school English teacher in the rural South, Mike went on to various leadership roles in which he recruited, trained, managed and advocated for teachers. Along the way he helped to build an organization that provided teachers with free, critical life skills curricula, and co-founded a company that helped make education data accessible and understandable to teachers, administrators, and families from all backgrounds. Throughout his career Mike has worked on behalf of school districts and organizations where most students come from diverse backgrounds.
Mike has lived most of his life in California, including earning his B.A. and M.B.A. from Stanford University. Today he works diligently to bring ESS’ model – still very much novel in California – to districts in his home state. Says Mike about this latest phase in his career, “Most recently I’ve worked for ed tech companies whose products make teachers’ lives easier, so in some ways ESS might seem like a departure, but I don’t see it that way: Our end-to-end, total-solution model makes substitute teaching a viable career option; by bringing more qualified substitutes to our schools, we’re also making teachers’ lives easier. As the father of a college student who hopes one day to become a teacher, I have a personal stake in this. I couldn’t be more proud of the work that ESS does on behalf of educators.”
